Rimini, 2nd November 2020 . The green economy world has never stopped, in spite of the difficulties, even in the year of the pandemic. Confirmation arrives from Ecomondo and Key Energy, the Italian Exhibition Group expos dedicated, respectively, to the recovery of material and sustainable development and to renewable energies, which will run from tomorrow, Tuesday 3rd November, until Sunday 15th November on the IEG digital platform (accessible, following registration, from the expo web sites https://en.ecomondo.com and https://en.keyenergy.it ).

Ecomondo and Key Energy 2020 will open at 10:30 am with the greetings in video link from the ministers of the Environment Sergio Costa, Economic Development Stefano Patuanelli and Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio and the Director of the ITA, Roberto Luongo. Also in video link will be the President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini, and Gianni Silvestrini, coordinator of the Key Energy Scientific Committee. On the technological stage prepared by IEG, IEG President Lorenzo Cagnoni, Rimini´s Mayor Andrea Gnassi, and Ecomondo Scientific Committee coordinator, Fabio Fava.

Immediately after, the 9th edition will get under way of the States General of the Green Economy, promoted by the National Council of Green Economy, during which the 2020 Report on the status of the green economy in Italy will be presented. The document, presented by Edo Ronchi, President of the Foundation for Sustainable Development, will describe the first six difficult months of this year, giving an insight on the current situation of the six strategic sectors of the green economy: energy, renewables, waste, agrifood, mobility and urban upgrading projects.

Some figures, between light and shadow: GHG emission dropped by 17 percent in the first half of 2020; there were considerable drops in urban public transport and rail transport; a boom in the purchase of bicycles and electric cars; an estimate - for all of 2020 - of a 25% drop in special waste; a 3% rise in energy from only renewable sources in the first half of 2020; a slowdown of urban upgrading projects.

In its digital edition, Key Energy will open tomorrow afternoon with the event dedicated to ´Ecological conversion after the Covid-19 and new EU 2030 targets´, during which there will be a presentation of the report realized exclusively for Key Energy by Milan Polytechnic´s Energy Strategy Group on the state of the art of renewables in Italy. The report will explain that to achieve the European target of a 55 percent reduction of climate changing emissions, it will be necessary to cut other 94 million tons of CO2, double the power installed for wind power, almost triple that for photovoltaic, and on the building energy efficiency front, reduce by 60 percent the emissions connected with energy consumption and ensure a progressive increase of the upgraded surfaces in buildings from now until 2030.
