The issue of energy efficiency in industry is complex: while the potential is very high, existing plant configurations are almost unlimited, especially in the field of thermal energy, therefore technical solutions must adapt to such complexity. From an economic perspective, the choice to invest in energy efficiency is subject to much stricter constraints compared to the residential sector.

The conference, which is part of the European research project HyCool (, will address these issues starting from the specific HyCool technology, which is based on the use of concentrated solar thermal collectors that feed an absorption chiller for the production of cold water to be used in industrial refrigeration processes. The technology will be explained and a first market analysis will be shown. Finally, one of the two companies hosting the two demonstration plants will intervene. Speaker will be:

  • Marco Calderoni – R2M Solution
  • Andrea Frazzica – CNR ITAE
  • Eleonora Nicolazzi – R2M Solution
  • Jean Garandel – Givaudan

The second part of the conference will be a round table, which aims to broaden the discussion to energy efficiency / use of renewable energy sources in industry more generally, talking about technical and economic barriers and opportunities for an industrial customer who chooses to use efficient technologies. Speaker will be:

  • ESCo R2M Energy, active in the field of smart grids and flexibility services to the electricity grid
  • ESCo Ambiente Italia, active in the field of industrial energy audits
  • Banca Popolare di Bari, financing energy efficiency measures for industrial customers
  • the president of AssoEGE, Association of Energy Management Experts
  • ENEA, National Energy Efficiency Agency
